June 5th & June 6th - Tuesday & Wednesday
Well, my blogging experience is not going well....we finally got Wifi in our room tonight and are paying for it because we are tired of trying to get to the lobby to make it happen...
Tuesday June 5th, we drove up the North Shore and on our way visited the Dole Plantation. Very neat. We rode the Pineapple Express (train) and learned about the history of growing pineapples and how the Dole company expanded out to other islands.
After that, we tried a Mexican restaurant that a lady from our hotel recommended the evening before when we were in the hot tub. It only had 6 tables and was called something like "Hole in the Wall"...and it truly was! Excellent food though!! Yum!
We drove on up to the North Shore and visited Bonzai Beach, then Sunset Beach, Ted's Bakery (OMG...a chocolate pie with a layer of coconut glaze on top then topped with whipped cream!!!), a few state beaches as well...it was spitting a little rain and I put my sweatshirt on because I was getting cold. IN HAWAII....weird....
We then hit Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville for some really bad food (although Kent & Terrie enjoyed their salad). Walked a LOT to get there and get back. We've been ending our days in the hot tub each day...nice way to unwind and cure some aches and pains!
June 6th - today, we drove to Pearl Harbor. We went to the USS Arizona Memorial. Very interesting. Also toured the Bow Fin (submarine) and the MIGHTY MISSOURI! I don't think I'm cut out for boat living unless it's a cruise ship. The bunks are too short and the spaces are not wide and open. It was a very historic day as we remembered and honored those who fought to secure our freedom. It was also exciting to stand on the very deck and very place that the Surrender documents were signed for WWII. History....
Long day. Dogs were barking. Grabbed some pizza although our GPS lovingly named LuLu was JACKING with us sending us to Pizza Huts that were closed!!! Came back to the hotel and went to the hot tub. Met a couple from Perth, Australia that were very nice people. They are visiting the US for the first time and thanked us for helping them in WWII. Wow....also met a couple from Alabama that were quite fun to talk to and are here to get married on Friday. You meet the neatest people at the hot tub!
I'm attaching a few pics from Tuesday but haven't downloaded Terrie's pics from today yet...stay tuned for those...
A final Happy Birthday to my lovely daughter Emily...June 7th....Happy 21st. 21 years ago today you changed my life. Love you Sis!!
Aloha!!
