Sunday - June 3rd
Yes, I'm a little late...sorry. We flew into Honolulu and our backsides were sore after sitting for almost 8 hours on the airplane. Fairly smooth flight...no screaming children. We met Kent & Terrie at the car rental place and headed downtown to our hotel.
We are staying about 2 blocks off of Waikiki beach so it's very congested! We were also starving because there was no food offered on the 8 hour trip. Thank you United Airlines.
Needless to say, the jetlag has been an issue but I still haven't slept much. We are adjusting but I wake up at about 3:30 a.m. every day. Hopefully that will subside soon.
Sunday we trekked to Diamond Head - inactive volcano. We walked the 1.5 miles roundtrip (sure seemed like more) which included an enormous amount of steps to the top. The views were spectacular!! I am going to try attaching some pics taken by our resident photographer, Terrie. It was definitely worth the hike up to see the sights!!
After that, we came back to the hotel and took a walk down to Waikiki beach and walked down the beach a ways. All kinds of wildlife down there (the human kind). 2 hours later we were back poolside at the hotel. The wind is really crazy here so it felt kind of cold even though Terrie ended up with a little pink on the shoulders after our two hour pool session.
Food is terribly expensive down here and with my new couponing hobby, it's very difficult to pay full price for things! I don't know how the locals afford it!
Today is actually Monday and it's about 8 am here. We are going to drive around the island today. I'm looking forward to more wide open spaces...too many people for me! We are driving to the North Shore and beyond. Looking for some good beach stopping places.
Well, here is my first attempt at uploading pics....hope it works. Took me a while to find a spot in the lobby where the wifi worked!!
Aloha!!
